About Rob

African born and bred, Rob began his love affair of 'all things wild' as a young boy - a childhood much of which was spent in the African wilderness, climbing trees, watching birds and jumping off waterfalls.

This wild upbringing left Rob with a broad range of interests. Consequently, his studies covered a wide range of subjects from Philosophy, English Literature & History of Art to Human Physiology & Anatomy, but the appeal of the wild brought him to the renowned Mala Mala Game Reserve after university. It was here that he truly found his passion that was to become his vocation for the next 25–plus years: beating about the bush, introducing guests to the wild wonders of Africa, and developing a deep understanding of the genius of the natural world.

He launched his Into the Wild brand of unique travel alchemy in 2010, through which he offers exclusive, privately-guided safaris across the globe – experiential adventures in wild wonderlands which are planned & booked through his partnership in Safarious.

Safari Design

Starting as a guide in the late 90s, Rob has decades of safari experience across much of Africa & the wild world beyond. Through a wide network of contacts in the field, Rob is able to curate behind-the-scenes wilderness experiences that are life-impacting. Having worked in all aspects of the industry over the years, as well as running his own camps, Rob has an all-encompassing knowledge of the experience his guests are after and the details required to pull such trips off. He has regularly featured in articles & publications and was a two-time joint finalist in the Good Safari Guide Awards for Best Personal Contribution to the African Safari Industry.

Conservation

Rob has over the years developed a strong ethos in conservation, particularly around the importance of enriching women & girls in and surrounding wild areas. He is involved in global conservation consulting projects and works closely both as an advisor and partner with numerous conservation organisations, including Peace Parks Foundation, African Parks, Gorongosa Restoration Project, Women Together Global, Big Life Foundation and his own Matriarch Initiative, both in raising awareness and in directing funding to some of the most effective conservation projects across the globe.

Photography

Rob is able to bring the awe & wonder of your travel experience into focus, through the incredible images & video captured on safari with you. Each trip’s images & safari storyline is weaved into a beautiful photo book delivered to your home after the adventure, that serves as a life-long creative echo of the safari. Through his intimate knowledge of wildlife, their habits & habitats, Rob introduces avid newcomers to the art of photography, as well as assisting seasoned pros to get the best shots whilst still ensuring that there is an appreciation for the real scene playing out in front of the filter of the camera lens.

Guiding

Of the many hats Rob wears, his true love is guiding, or translating as he prefers to call it. A true guide, Rob feels, is one that is able to translate the many lessons, gifts & magic of the natural world into a life-enhancing and inspiring human experience. Rob loves nothing more that sharing the power of the reconnection and remembering process in the wild with his guests. He has played a role in the ongoing development of the guiding industry, mentoring many young guides through the years. His happiest moments are spent tracking big cats & bears in some of the world’s most remote and unspoilt wilderness areas.

Rob is involved in global conservation consulting projects and works closely both as an advisor and partner with numerous conservation organisations.

"Coming from, and being an integral part of the natural world means we as human beings should have a much deeper connect with things wild than perhaps we have currently. We can learn a whole lot more from it all than we are doing at the moment; learnings that should help keep us on this planet for a little longer as a species…"
