Ten years ago, I had the great good luck of sitting next to Warren Pearson on a flight to the Oppenheimer private South African game preserve, Tswalu. He was going there to guide another group but I was impressed with his intelligence and great knowledge of Africa. We kept in touch and I asked him to organise a trip to Tanzania and Rwanda a couple of years later. He has subsequently organised three additional trips for our family to South Africa, Kenya and Botswana, including one with my 89-year-old mother, who never missed a game drive.

Warren’s extensive network of guides and outfitters ensures that the quality of the safari experience is unsurpassed. He prefers to organise safaris in the old-fashioned way—highly mobile and under canvas—but always with superb food, comfortable beds and excellent local guides. Warren has a connection with the animals which is unbelievable. In addition to an encyclopaedic knowledge of the animals, Warren can understand what’s going through their mind. He can predict their next move by observing them. This allowed us to experience their relationship with their family, their hunts and their reaction to predators. Being with Warren on a safari is not just seeing wild animals, it’s getting immersed in their world. It’s like “jumping inside” a fascinating documentary.
